The 31st Annual London Marathon

Back To News >>

NSR has been involved with the London Marathon every year since it began. Now, 31 years later, the NSR team were on site again at Blackheath to set-up full PA systems for all three start lines, as well as control units and TV monitors for the VIP areas outputting the BBC broadcast plus PA systems for the two lead vehicles and the rear vehicle following the runners.

London Marathon 2011

The London Marathon has grown considerably since the first race in 1981, when there was only a running field of just 2000 runners; NSR provided full PA systems for both the start and finish lines. As the event as grown, to over 35,000 entrants in 2011, NSR now concentrate on the starting area for the race, which, with 3 different starting areas, is far more than they provided for the first ever race.

In addition, the event now includes a mini marathon for 11 to 17 year olds who run a three mile course from Old Billingsgate Market Venue on Lower Thames Street on the north side of the River Thames to the main London Marathon Finish Line on The Mall near Buckingham Palace. The PA systems for the Mini Marathon include the Start Line and a system covering the assembly area inside of Old Billingsgate both of which were supplied by NSR. Interestingly there were more runners in the mini marathon this year than there were for the main marathon when the event was first held.
